Report from trip to Friisvegen Summer 2022
The 81-year old man has become to dizzy, weak and clumsy for long trips in the mountains with a heavy backpack. So I have scaled down to putting up camp next to my car. I chose the campsite I had used before in the Åsdalen valley south from Friisvegen not far from Friisbua.
When I saw that the weather forecast was OK, I left home August 10 and was happy to find the campsite free.
Chomsky and I made several shorter trips, but two longer. The first to the top of the mountain Hirisjøhøgda (1393 m.a.s.l.) and Remdalshøgda (1258 m.a.s.l.).
Both trips went OK. My endurance was fine, but because I am both dizzy and unsteady, I had to be particularly careful, especially when jumping from stone to stone. It was demanding also for Chomsky who carried a light backpack. It was quite windy, so we lunched in the shelter of the cairns.
Chomsky was in great shape the whole time. He is a really good tour mate.
I also found it pleasant to listen to the brook near the tent and the sheep bells.
As normal I had forgotten some things at home. So I had to make myself a cap from a handkerchief. I had brought only one lighter, so when that got wet, I had to get matches from a lady who ran a sheiling for goat and sheep nearby.
I had put up a bivouac near the tent, which made the wind less bothersome. The weather was on the whole good. Because the forecast was for rain on August 16, I left the day before to avoid taking down the camp in rain. This turned out to be wise, because heavy rain started in the evening just after we got home.
Once more: Nice to leave and nice to get home.
